Methods of Contruction - Vacuum Moulding

Postby slurp on Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:25 am

I've been digging around for various means of construction, some of them low cost and other a little more expensive.

Vacuum Moulding seems to crossover with some expensive equipment available but also some good low cost techniques. While thinking about a shell for one of the minisumo and ways of construction I found this:-

The start of the associated article can be found here: http://makezine.com/11/vacuumformer/

It might be a while before I get round to this but it looks promising :D

I should have added the materials are not expensive... generally High Impact Polystyrene Sheet (HIPS) is used.

There's a varity of sources, looking at MUTR you can get various colours and sizes in packs of 10 sheets from £6.75+vat - they have 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm thicknesses.
